Hosting

Did you know that the world can fit into your home? You could find out by hosting an AFS participant from one of more than 50 AFS countries! Offer your family a unique learning opportunity and develop long-term bonds with students from all over the world! Hosting is an unforgettable experience for the whole family that allows you to discover the culture and history from another country.

AFS host families are people who care about youth, education and the future. Some have teenagers, others have young children or children who have already left home, or no children at all. Some host parents are married. Some are single.

AFS families receive no pay; getting a new son or daughter is the reward! Hosting creates a lifetime friendship with another person – and often – with another family in a different part of the world. Hosts also benefit from friendships with people who have an international perspective and by participating in AFS activities with them.
AFS Egypt has a number of hosting programs to suit you. All programs focus on intercultural learning and understanding.

    Why Egypt?

Egypt is a land of many firsts: Ancient Egyptians were the first known people to fish for pleasure and to keep bees for making honey.

Both Easter and the coming of spring are symbols of new life. The ancient Egyptians and Persians celebrated their spring festivals by coloring and eating eggs. This is because they considered the egg a symbol of fertility and new life.

We owe our calendar of 365 days to ancient Egyptians. They were the first to divide the day and night into 24 hours and to use clocks.

Egypt won the Africa Cup of Nations for the sixth time in the tournament’s history in Ghana. Egypt was the Cup winner last time (2006), when the finals were played in Cairo.

To experience a unique living immersed in the region’s rich culture, prominent history and incredibly diverse society.

“Ahlan Wa Sahlan” are the traditional Egyptian words of welcome.
