High School

What about studying abroad for a year? AFS offers a wide choice of programs of varying length and focus. Make your dream come true with AFS!

AFS is an intercultural exchange program and not a study program. You would be able to gain knowledge such as intercultural skills, communication skills and learn to be more independent from going on this program.

Year Program: The most popular of all our programs! This is a year-long immersion program lasting 10 to 11 months. You will stay with a host family and go to school.

Youth Exchange & Study Program (YES): The YES program provides full scholarships for an academic year of living and studying in the U.S to a select group of Egyptian teenagers.

Students live with host families, attend high school, engage in school and community activities, and volunteer with local organizations. They learn about American society and values while helping to educate Americans about the customs and culture of their homelands. The YES program focuses on leadership and works with these students during the school year to develop their leadership skills.

YES students are selected in an open, merit-based selection process.
There are also some scholarships to some other countries but this is subject to change. Please check with office annually.

Why Egypt?

Egypt is a land of many firsts: Ancient Egyptians were the first known people to fish for pleasure and to keep bees for making honey.

Both Easter and the coming of spring are symbols of new life. The ancient Egyptians and Persians celebrated their spring festivals by coloring and eating eggs. This is because they considered the egg a symbol of fertility and new life.

We owe our calendar of 365 days to ancient Egyptians. They were the first to divide the day and night into 24 hours and to use clocks.

Egypt won the Africa Cup of Nations for the sixth time in the tournament’s history in Ghana. Egypt was the Cup winner last time (2006), when the finals were played in Cairo.

To experience a unique living immersed in the region’s rich culture, prominent history and incredibly diverse society.

“Ahlan Wa Sahlan” are the traditional Egyptian words of welcome.
